A.D.(the Song Dynasty)and used as the place of country test andprefecturalexamination.
When Zhu Yuan-zhang,the First Emperor of Ming Dynasty,made Nanjing as the capital,it once became a place of provincial and palace examination.In the periond of
Qing Dynasty alone,one hundred and twelve imperial examinations were held and fifty-eight Number One Scholars,a 51.78 percent of the total amount,were from Jiangnan Examination chool, among them
49 were from Jiangsu Province and nine from Anhui
Provence.Many eminent writers and painters in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,such as Tang Bo-hu,Zhu Yun-ming,Zheng Ban-qiao,were the graduates of the Jiangnan Examination School.
Today ,the Exhibition Hall of the History of the Jiangnan Examination school has become an institute to make researches on the imperial ezamination system and to collect the historical materials and relics of the imperial examination.It is highly praised by chinese and foreign
